There are a few staple items I consistently wear because they have proven themselves to be tried-and-true pieces that never seem to go out of style. Among these coveted wardrobe essentials lies my love for blazers. Structured, cropped, boyfriend fit – you name it. I have grown quite a collection of blazers and continue to get a lot of use out of each and every one. I adore everything from your most basic of versions all the way to the more extreme, embellished variations in non-traditional silhouettes!
There are endless opportunities when it comes to styling whatever blazer you might own, so, if you are looking to freshen up your basic jeans and blazer outfit, here are my tips on how to do it.
Oversized Silhouettes
The oversized trend that we are experiencing lately continues on as we shift into fall and winter. Luckily, one of my favourite blazer silhouettes is any variation that is oversized. The boxier cut of those blazers makes layering a piece of cake. At the same time the exaggerated shoulder detailing can enhance a basic shirt and jeans outfit several levels without putting too much effort.
Bold Print
The easiest way to take a basic blazer and jeans outfit to the next level is to choose a bold colour or a fun print. The last year more feminine colours like soft blues, buttercup yellows, sage greens, rosy pinks and creamy whites were a big trend. So, in this case I'm combining the sage green hue with the oh-so-popular Vichy print that was everywhere this year too. I have always found this pattern to be more bold and playful, but also quite delicate and feminine at the same time. The perfect print when you want something more colourful and quirky, but not too extravagant and out there.
Chunky Sneakers
Sneakers are by far one of my favorite shoes for year-round wear. They are not only the most comfortable, but also give any outfit a relaxed, laid-back style.
From putting a casual spin on a favorite dress to creating a classic look with denim, I’ve been opting for cute sneakers more than ever lately. I switch between my beloved Converse sneakers, which have been a staple in my wardrobe since I was a teenager and my white oversized chunky ones from Bershka that I became obsessed with a couple of years ago.
Colouful handbag
If you tend to wear more solid clothes because you are attracted to their non-descript style and their ease of styling, maybe a printed handbag is just the thing you have been searching for. Trendy handbags with a catchy pattern will easily break up an all solid outfit, making for a more balanced look. The amazing thing about this particular style of bag is the array of prints you can choose from. Perhaps you want a bag that is feminine – maybe a floral pattern for the summer will suit your wardrobe. Or may you want something more bold – in which case you can never say no to a tonal animal print handbag. In this case, I chose a printed backpack perfect for the casual look I had in mind when opting for sneakers, with the most playful lemons pattern that is colour coordinated with my Vichy blazer hues.
