How To Transition Your Favourite Summer Dress To Fall

Now that November is here, it feels like we can fully embrace the fall season and start dressing the part, too. The leaves are slowing starting to change, along with the weather, and I’m seeing more layers appear on the streets daily. Often times, this transition of seasons makes people switch from dresses and skirts to pants and jeans every day. I get it. Once it starts to cool down, dressing becomes all about wanting to stay warm and comfortable. But I’m here to say that dressing into cool weather with a dress is just as, if not more, easy and effortless. I just rely on a few accessories and styling tips…

Neutral Trenchcoat

I bought this Stradivarius trenchcoat a few years ago and it’s been a tried and true staple every fall and spring season. The military green colour works with everything and the medium length works well with both dresses and pants. In the fall, especially, adding a great lightweight jacket or a trenchcoat, like this one, is a great choice for both comfort and style. I have the exact same model, in pink and baby blue too.. That's how much I love it.

 Knee Boots

I reach for knee-high or over-the-knee boots most often when I’m wearing dresses or skirts. Regardless of the length of my skirt, tall boots double as a perfect extra layer on chilly days—it’s one of the best tricks I’ve found to extend dress-wearing season well into winter. With mini-length hems, I usually wear boots with bare legs to show just a little bit of skin. As the weather gets colder, I’ll pair black tights with black boots, or opt for any of my favorite tall boots under a midi or maxi dress.

 Tights

As I mentioned earlier as soon as the weather gets colder, I’ll pair black tights with black boots - the perfect trick for elongating your legs and staying warm at the same time.

Scarf

A small detail that makes a big difference. There will be plenty of time to layer on cozy blanket scarves as the temperatures drop, but over the next few months, I’m looking forward to updating my silk scarf collection with a few autumnal prints and colors. The silk scarf is a timeless fashion piece that would never get out of style.
